Law firm marketing agencyfor the Coachella Valley
A large part of your market is not here in July, and the ones who are here in February may not be Californians at all.
The short version. This is the one cluster in the series where the binding constraint is the calendar. Two populations, one year-round and one seasonal, and a window of roughly five months when both are present and reachable.
That makes flat annual spend the wrong shape and flat annual staffing the wrong plan. It also means a matter not closed before people leave in spring does not resume in May; it waits until November. The law firm marketing overview covers the method. This page is about timing it.
Two populations, one window
Your market hasa season
Both populations present Year-round residents only
We have not put a number on the swing, and that is deliberate. Published estimates of the seasonal population here vary considerably depending on who is counting and how, and quoting one as though it were settled would be exactly the sort of thing this whole series avoids. The shape is not in dispute, and the shape is what changes your plan. If you want the size, the method below gives it to you for your own practice area in about ten minutes.
The valley runs from Palm Springs through Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert and La Quinta out to Indio and Coachella, and the two populations are not evenly spread across it. The eastern end is more year-round and more working; the resort cities carry more of the seasonal cohort. That matters when you set geography as well as timing.
The question behind the estate work
Which statedo they live in?
A second home is not automatically a domicile
A substantial share of the seasonal population keeps a permanent home somewhere else and spends part of the year here. Some have moved their domicile to California; many have not; and a good number are genuinely unsure which is true of them, having never had a reason to find out.
For estate work that is not a detail, it is the threshold question, because it shapes which state's law is in play, what documents they need, and whether the plan they had drawn up somewhere else still does what they think it does. It is also the question they are most likely to be quietly worried about and least likely to ask out loud.
- What they wonder We spend half the year here and half at home. Do we need California documents, or do the ones we already have cover us?
- What they wonder We own the house here and the house there. Does that get handled in one place or two?
A firm that addresses this plainly, in writing, on the site, converts a meaningfully higher share of this population than one that does not, for the same reason it worked in every other market where the client is unsure whether they are even the right kind of client. Nothing clever is required. The material simply has to exist, and here it mostly does not.

Measure your ownseasonal curve
Pull five years of search interest
Open Google Trends, set the region to the Palm Springs media market, and enter your three core terms over a five-year window. Five years rather than one, so a single unusual season does not mislead you.
Read the peaks and troughs
Note which months run high and which collapse. Different practice areas peak differently, so do this per area rather than once for the firm and assuming it generalizes.
Shape the budget to match
Weight spend toward the months that actually produce, and hold back what you would have burned in the trough. Same annual budget, materially more signed matters.
Two operational consequences follow, and both are easy to get wrong. The first is that consult capacity has to be there in season, because the constraint in the window is your calendar rather than your budget. The second is that follow-up discipline matters more here than anywhere: a prospect who leaves in April without signing is not a lost lead, they are a seven-month one, and a firm that reaches out again in October picks up matters its competitors have long since forgotten about.
Set the ceiling on the max CPL calculator for the in-season months rather than for a flat year, and work the economics through on the cost per signed case guide before committing a budget shape.

Estate Planning
The reason to be here. A large retiree base, real assets, and a domicile question almost nobody local is answering in writing.
Estate planning marketing →Google Screened
Cheap to establish and disproportionately useful to a seasonal client choosing a firm they have no local network to ask about.
How to rank in Screened →Family Law
Steady from the year-round population at the eastern end of the valley, and far less seasonal than the estate work.
Family law marketing →Immigration
Genuine demand around Indio and Coachella, largely year-round, and served in English only by most of the field.
Immigration law marketing →Criminal Defense
Modest and year-round, with a seasonal lift the resort economy brings. Not a reason on its own to enter the market.
Criminal defense marketing →Personal Injury
The brief is right that the volume does not support building here on its own. Worth having if you are already local, not worth entering for.

Build the year, then build the ads
The first deliverable is a calendar rather than a campaign: which months carry the spend, which carry the content and the follow-up, and where consult capacity needs to be in place before the season starts. Getting that shape right is worth more than any bidding refinement applied evenly across twelve months.
Then the usual sequence, with one addition. Measure the full path from inquiry to signed matter, fix intake before increasing spend, and build a genuine off-season follow-up program for the people who left without signing, because in this market that list is an asset rather than a graveyard. Copy goes past a compliance review first; the advertising rules guide covers the claims and testimonial limits that catch firms out.

Straightanswers
Should we just stop advertising in summer?
Reduce rather than stop, in most cases. The year-round population is real and has ordinary legal needs all twelve months, so going dark entirely hands the off-season to whoever stayed on.
What we would cut hard is the spend aimed at the seasonal cohort during months they are not here, and redirect that money into content and follow-up. The summer is when you build the material that converts in November, which is a better use of a quiet quarter than bidding into an empty room.
Why won't you tell us how big the seasonal swing is?
Because the published estimates disagree with each other and there is no single authoritative count. Different bodies measure different things over different periods, and picking whichever figure is largest would make for a better sales pitch and a worse answer.
The version that is actually useful to you is your own curve, in your own practice area, which the three steps above will give you free in about ten minutes. That number you can rely on, and it is the one your budget should be built from.
Our clients winter here but live elsewhere. Can we still act for them?
That depends on the matter and on facts specific to each client, which is precisely why it is worth addressing on your site rather than leaving people to guess. Whatever your firm's actual position is, saying it clearly qualifies the right people and saves consult hours on the wrong ones.
What we would not do is stay vague to keep options open. In this market, a page that plainly explains when a second-home owner does and does not need California counsel is one of the highest-converting things a firm can publish, and almost nobody here has written one.
