Law firm marketing agencyfor North Orange County

Orange County's family law court sits inside this cluster. So does one of its criminal justice centers. That changes who your marketing should be talking to.

The short version. In most markets you advertise to the people who live near you. In this one, a large share of your potential clients live somewhere else entirely and come here because that is where their case is heard.

Family law, juvenile and domestic violence matters for most of the county are handled at the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange. A criminal justice center serving eight north county cities sits in Fullerton. Your catchment is defined by court assignment, not by city limits, and almost nobody targets it that way. The law firm marketing overview sets out how we work. This page is about one structural fact and what follows from it.

Where cases are actually heard

Three justice centers. One of them is not here.

Orange County publishes exactly which cities each of its justice centers serves. It is the cleanest targeting map available in any cluster in this build, and it does not follow the cluster boundary.

Not in this cluster · Westminster

West Justice Center

Serves the western county cities, including two that sit inside this marketing cluster.

Published city list includes Cypress and Garden Grove, alongside Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

Source: Superior Court of California, County of Orange, locations and facility pages, cross-checked against the Orange County Public Law Library. Court assignments and city lists change, so verify against the court's own site before relying on them. Central Justice Center in Santa Ana and Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach sit outside this cluster and handle the balance of the county.

Read that carefully and two things fall out that most firms marketing here have never acted on.

The first is that this cluster is not one catchment. Six of its cities route to Fullerton for criminal matters. Cypress and Garden Grove route to Westminster instead, which is outside the cluster entirely. A campaign that treats North Orange County as a single service area is advertising to two different court populations with one message.

The second is larger. Because Lamoreaux handles family law for most of the county, a firm based here is geographically convenient to people who live in Santa Ana, Irvine, Tustin and Huntington Beach and have to appear in Orange regardless. Those are not your neighbors. They are your clients, and your competitors are mostly not bidding for them from here.

Your service area is where you are licensed. Your catchment is wherever the hearing is. In this cluster those are very different maps.

What this changes in the account

Target the hearing, not the home address

How these accounts usually get built

  • Radius targeting around the office, five or ten miles
  • City names in the ad copy, matched to the cluster
  • One landing page for the whole of north county
  • Criminal and family campaigns sharing the same geography
  • Proximity treated as a nice-to-have rather than an asset

What the court map suggests instead

  • Family law geo-weighted to the whole Lamoreaux catchment
  • Criminal split cleanly between the Fullerton and Westminster city lists
  • Copy that names the courthouse, because clients search for it
  • Proximity to the courthouse stated plainly as a client benefit
  • Separate pages where the catchments genuinely differ

There is a second reason proximity is worth stating rather than assuming. Distance from the searcher is a live ranking factor in Local Services Ads, so a firm genuinely located near the courthouse that most of the county's family law clients are traveling to holds a positional advantage it cannot buy. Getting verified is the first step, and there is a legitimate version of expanding on it that involves a real second office rather than a mail drop. The Google Screened guide covers verification and ranking; the multiple locations guide covers exactly where the line sits and what gets an account burned.

None of this changes the underlying arithmetic. Work out what a signed case costs you on the cost per signed case guide and set the bid ceiling with the max CPL calculator before deciding how far the catchment targeting should reach.

What an engagement looks like here

Map the catchment. Then build to it.

The first hour is spent on the court's own site rather than in a keyword tool, working out which justice centers your practice areas actually appear in and which cities feed each one. That map, not the cluster boundary, becomes the targeting geometry. For a family practice it usually reaches considerably further than the firm expected; for a criminal practice it is tighter and more precisely defined than any radius setting would give you.

After that the sequence is the usual one. Measure the whole path from inquiry to signed case, fix intake before increasing spend, and split campaigns by matter type rather than running one bucket per practice area. Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange, Garden Grove, Brea, Yorba Linda, Buena Park and Cypress are the cluster on paper; the account should be built to the catchment instead. The missed call calculator sizes the intake gap, and everything runs through a compliance review against the California Rules of Professional Conduct first. The advertising rules guide sets out what Rules 7.1 to 7.5 allow a California firm to say.

Questions from firms in this market

Straightanswers

Should we advertise to cities outside our cluster?

For family law here, almost certainly. If most of the county's dissolution and custody matters are heard at a courthouse in your cluster, then people living well outside it are already traveling to your neighborhood for hearings. Being close to that building is a real convenience argument and it is one your competitors in other parts of the county cannot make.

For criminal work the answer is narrower, because the court publishes which cities route where. Target the list rather than a radius, and check it rather than assuming, since two cities in this cluster route to a courthouse outside it.

Is being near the courthouse actually a ranking factor?

Distance from the searcher is a ranking input in Local Services Ads, which is not quite the same thing. What it means practically is that a firm physically located near where clients are heading tends to surface for those searchers, and in a cluster containing the county's family law courthouse that is a meaningful positional advantage.

It is worth being precise about the legitimate version. A real, staffed office where an attorney genuinely takes meetings is an asset. A mail drop or a coworking desk used to claim a location is not, and Google treats it harshly. The multiple locations guide covers exactly where that line falls.

Why is there no demographic data on this page?

Because it would explain this market less well than the court map does. Income and language profiles tell you about the people who live in a cluster. In North Orange County a large share of the relevant clients do not live here, so a demographic snapshot of the resident population would point you at the wrong audience.

We use whichever public source actually explains a market rather than running the same block on every regional page. Where demographics are the right lens we use them, and we say which source and which vintage every time.

Do you work with more than one firm here?

One per practice area in this cluster. If we are running family law for a firm here, that practice area is closed in this market until they leave.

Given how the catchments work, we would also flag it if a prospective engagement overlapped meaningfully with an existing client's targeting in a neighboring cluster, even where the formal boundary says otherwise. The court map does not respect our cluster lines and we would rather raise that than pretend it does not matter.
