Roofing marketing · 14 Southern California markets
Roofing marketing that booksjobs, not just clicks.
California roofs don't fail in a hailstorm. They age out. That one fact changes how a re-roof gets sold here — and most of the money being spent in your market is still being spent as if it didn't.

California is not
a storm market
Almost every roofing marketing playbook in circulation was written in Texas, Colorado or Florida. In those states a single hail event resets the whole market overnight. Thousands of roofs are damaged in an afternoon, insurance carriers pay for replacement, and the contractor who knocks the most doors in the following six weeks wins. Speed and volume are the entire strategy, because the demand already exists and the only question is who reaches it first.
Southern California does not work like that. We get almost no hail. Insurance rarely pays for a full replacement, so the homeowner is spending their own money, and there is no six-week window forcing a decision. Demand here comes from age, not weather — and age arrives quietly, one neighbourhood at a time, on a schedule you can actually read in advance.
That single difference rewrites the campaign. A storm-market roofer buys urgency. A California roofer has to create the reason to act now, then survive a comparison against two other proposals sitting on the same kitchen table. Which means the ad is only the beginning of the job, and the money is won or lost in the ninety minutes after the phone rings and the ten days after the proposal goes out.
Here is where the work actually comes from in this state:
- 01Asphalt hitting its second decadeTract housing built through the 1990s and early 2000s is now at twenty to twenty-five years. Composition shingle reaches the end of its service life on a predictable clock, and whole subdivisions reach it within a few years of each other.
- 02Tile roofs with dead underlaymentThe tile is fine. The felt beneath it is not. Homeowners are shocked to learn a thirty-year-old tile roof needs a lift-and-relay, which makes this the single most educable, highest-ticket conversation in the trade.
- 03Santa Ana wind eventsNo hail, but real wind. Lifted ridge caps, torn edge metal and blown-off tabs generate a repair spike every autumn that turns into replacement work when the inspection is done honestly.
- 04Fire-rated upgrades in the burn scarsClass A assemblies and ember-resistant venting are a live budget line in the wildland interface, not an upsell. In the Conejo Valley and the canyons above South Orange County, it is often the reason the call happens at all.
- 05Salt air on the coastFlashing, fasteners and valley metal corrode faster within a couple of miles of the water. Coastal Ventura and the South Bay run on a shorter clock than anything inland, and nobody local is writing about it.
- 06Escrow and solarRoof condition kills deals and blocks panel installs. A steady share of re-roofs are triggered by an inspection report or a solar contractor, on a deadline, with a decision maker who is already spending.
Every one of those drivers is geographic. They do not distribute evenly across Southern California — they concentrate, cluster by cluster, in ways you can target. That is why we build market by market rather than as one page shouting at everybody: the Inland Empire and Rancho Palos Verdes are not the same business, and an ad account run as though they were will lose money in both.
How we run it
Six steps,
in this order
The order is not decorative. You cannot place spend before the offer exists, and you cannot judge either one before the tracking is honest. Skipping a step is how roofing accounts end up expensive and unaccountable at the same time.
Audit
We open your accounts, your CRM and your call log and work out what a signed job currently costs you, by source. Not cost per lead — cost per contract. Most roofers we meet have never seen this number, and it is almost always worse on one channel and far better on another than anyone expected.
Offer
What the ad actually promises. A free inspection is table stakes and everybody has one. We build around what makes your bid winnable: financing, a real workmanship warranty, drone or satellite measurement, a price anchor that survives the comparison, or a repair-first path that earns the replacement later.
Placement
Local Services Ads, search, the map pack and paid social, split for your market rather than a national template. Repair intent and re-roof intent behave differently, so they get separate campaigns, separate budgets and separate landing pages instead of competing for the same click.
Answer
Every call picked up, every form replied to in minutes, including the ones that land while your crew is on a roof and the office phone is ringing out. This is where AI voice, SMS and follow-up sequences do the work no roofing office has the hands to do at 4:40 on a Friday.
Track
Calls, forms, chats and bookings tied back to the campaign, the keyword and the market that produced them, then through to the signed contract value. Every regional page in the markets we cover carries a hidden field, so you can see which market is paying for itself and which one is quietly subsidised.
Cut and feed
Weekly. Losing campaigns get cut, winning ones get funded, and the offer gets tested against itself continuously. Nothing here runs on a quarterly review, because a roofing account can drift a long way in three months and take a whole season with it.
This is the same operating system we run in every trade. What changes for roofing is the clock: seasonality is sharper, ticket size is higher, and the gap between proposal and signature is where most of the revenue leaks. See how the engagement works.

Run your own
numbers first
Before you hire anyone, including us, it's worth knowing what your phone is costing you and what you can actually afford to pay for a job. All three tools run in the browser and nothing is gated.
Missed Call Calculator
Roofing is the trade most exposed to a missed call: the crew is on a roof, the office is one person, and the homeowner calling at 8:10am is calling three companies. Put in your call volume, your close rate and your average job value, and see what the unanswered ones are worth over a year. For most roofers it is the largest single number on this page.

The channels that
book roofing work
Local Services Ads
Google Guaranteed sits above everything else on the page and charges per lead rather than per click, which makes it the cheapest repair volume in most markets — until enough roofers pile in. Saturation varies wildly by cluster, so we count it before we recommend it. The full argument, using plumbing as the worked example.
Search, split by job type
"Roof leak repair" and "tile roof replacement cost" are not the same buyer and should never share a budget. We separate emergency repair, full re-roof, tile and underlayment, and fire-rated upgrade work, then bid each against what that job is genuinely worth to you.
The map pack
For repair intent the map pack routinely outperforms paid search, and it costs nothing per click. That means review velocity, job photos, service-area accuracy and a profile that is worked weekly rather than set up once and forgotten.
Paid social, used properly
Nobody scrolling Instagram decides to buy a roof. What social does well here is financing offers, neighbourhood job posts, post-wind-event follow-up, and staying in front of the homeowner who priced a roof in March and went quiet.
Proposal follow-up
The most under-worked revenue in roofing is the pile of bids that never got a second conversation. Sequenced follow-up on open proposals, and a real reactivation pass over old estimates and past repair customers, is usually the fastest money in the first ninety days.
Answering, automatically
AI voice picks up when your office cannot, qualifies the job, and books the inspection straight into the calendar. Every lead gets a text within a minute whether or not a human is free. It is the least glamorous part of the system and reliably the highest returning.
Fourteen markets
Find your
service area
Each market gets its own page, with the housing stock, the competitive picture and the click prices for that cluster specifically. They're ordered by how strong the roofing opportunity is, which is not the same order as population — the Inland Empire leads because a very large body of 1990s tract housing is reaching replacement age at once, against the cheapest clicks in the state.
Inland Empire
Riverside · San Bernardino · Fontana · Chino · MenifeeEnormous 1990s tract cohort hitting replacement now, at the lowest click prices anywhere in the build. Volume market, thin margins, wins on efficiency.
02North Orange County
Anaheim · Fullerton · Orange · Garden Grove · Brea · Yorba Linda · Buena Park · CypressThe 1960s–80s tract boom, now well past its second roof. Best ratio of volume to competition in the county.
03San Gabriel Valley
Pasadena · Arcadia · El Monte · West Covina · Diamond Bar · GlendaleOld housing and high income in the same postcode — rare, and the reason this cluster is strong for every trade in the build, not just roofing.
04South Orange County
Mission Viejo · Laguna Niguel · Lake Forest · Aliso Viejo · Rancho Santa Margarita · San Clemente · Dana Point · San Juan Capistrano · Laguna BeachA deep pool of 1970s–90s tile and asphalt at replacement age, with the household income to do it properly rather than patch it again.
05Conejo Valley
Thousand Oaks · Westlake Village · Agoura Hills · Newbury Park · Oak Park · CalabasasWoolsey burn scar. Class A assemblies and ember-resistant venting are a demand driver no other market we cover has.
06Southeast LA County
Whittier · Downey · Santa Fe Springs · La Mirada · Bellflower · Artesia · Commerce · City of IndustryThe densest pre-1970 housing stock in the build. High job count at a modest ticket, so the account has to be run tightly.
07Santa Clarita Valley
Santa Clarita · Valencia · Newhall · Saugus · Canyon Country · Stevenson RanchMaster-planned 1990s–2000s stock reaching asphalt replacement now, with wind and fire-zone exposure driving the autumn spike.
08Ventura County Coast
Ventura · Oxnard · Camarillo · OjaiSalt air wears flashing and fasteners far faster here than anywhere inland. A genuine local angle nobody in this market is writing about.
09South Bay
Torrance · Gardena · Long Beach · Hermosa Beach · Rancho Palos Verdes · Seal BeachTwo markets in one cluster: Long Beach carries the volume, the Palos Verdes peninsula and the beach cities carry the ticket. Copy has to serve both.
10Coachella Valley
Palm Desert · La Quinta · IndioExtreme UV and heat cycling age a roof on a different clock. Second-home owners, seasonal population, and very little agency competition.
11San Diego
San Diego · Chula Vista · La Jolla · Encinitas · CoronadoIts own metro with its own competitive set. Coastal wear near the water, inland heat load east of it, and a healthy solar-driven re-roof stream.
12Coastal Orange County
Irvine · Newport Beach · Huntington Beach · Santa AnaIrvine and Newport stock is relatively new, so the replacement pool is thinner than the income suggests. The page leans on Huntington Beach and Santa Ana.
13West Los Angeles
Santa Monica · Culver City · Beverly Hills · West Hollywood · Los AngelesThe highest ticket and the highest click prices anywhere in the build, against the most entrenched competition. Win on tile and slate premium work, never on volume.
14Bay Area
San Francisco · San Jose · San MateoOut of our home market by four hundred miles, with the most expensive clicks in the country. We take Bay Area roofers selectively and say so up front.
Not on the list? We work with roofers outside these clusters too — these are simply the markets where we already know the housing stock, the click prices and who you're bidding against. Tell us where you work and we'll say honestly whether we can help.

Straight answers,
roofing edition
Do you only work with roofers in Southern California?
No, but it's where we're strongest. We've spent years inside these fourteen markets and we know the housing stock, the click prices and the competitors by name. A roofer in Sacramento or Phoenix gets the same system; the market research just takes longer at the start.
How is roofing different from the other trades you market?
Three ways. The ticket is high enough that a single missed call can cost more than a month of ad spend. Seasonality is sharper, so the calendar matters as much as the budget. And the sale isn't closed on the phone — it's closed after an inspection and a proposal, which means the follow-up is part of the marketing, not something that happens once marketing is done.
Do you buy leads or generate them?
Generate. Shared leads are sold to several roofers at once, which means you're paying for a homeowner who is already annoyed by the time you reach them, and your close rate reflects it. We build channels you own, so the cost of a job trends down over time instead of up. If you're currently buying leads we'll usually leave that running while the owned channels come up — turning off your only demand source on day one is not a plan.
What does a roofing lead cost?
It varies more by market than by channel, which is why we won't quote you a single number here. What matters more is what a lead is worth to you, and that comes from your close rate, your average job value and your margin. Work it out with the Max CPL calculator, then read what roofing leads actually cost for the channel-by-channel picture.
Are Local Services Ads worth it for roofers?
Often yes for repair work, less reliably for full replacement, and it depends heavily on how many Google Guaranteed roofers are already in your market. We count them before recommending a budget. Where it works, it's some of the cheapest qualified volume available; where it's saturated, it turns into an expensive queue.
How long before we see signed jobs?
Paid channels produce calls in the first week or two. Signed contracts follow your own sales cycle — usually two to six weeks from first call to signature on a re-roof. The fastest revenue in the first ninety days is almost always follow-up on proposals you've already sent and reactivation of past customers, which costs nothing in media.
What size roofing company is this for?
Companies with crews to keep busy — roughly two to fifteen trucks, doing a million to thirty million a year. If you're a one-truck operation still building capacity, the tools on this page will serve you better than we will right now, and we'll tell you that on the call rather than after the invoice.
What happens if it doesn't work?
We lower your cost per acquired customer within ninety days or we work for free until we do. There are conditions attached — a like-for-like baseline, and your side of the work actually getting done — and they're all written down. Read the full guarantee terms before you take our word for it.

We'll pull up your accounts, look at what a signed roof currently costs you, and tell you exactly what we'd change. You can go and run it yourself afterward. Plenty of people do.
