What are your missed calls actually costing you?

Most home services companies never answer the phone about half the time. Move the sliders to your own numbers and see what walks out the door in a year.

How the math works

Nothing hidden in here

Missed calls times the share who never call back, times your close rate, times your average job value. That is the whole calculation. The starting numbers change per industry because a plumbing call and an ADU call are not worth remotely the same thing.

Close rate applies to both
A missed caller you would have closed at 35% is counted at 35%, not higher. Missed calls are treated as ordinary calls, which keeps the number conservative.
No callback recovery credit
Whatever share you set as coming back is removed from the loss entirely. In practice some of those still go cold, so the real figure usually runs above what this shows.
Revenue, not profit
This is top-line revenue on lost jobs. Apply your own margin to get profit. For most trades that lands between a fifth and a half of the figure above.
Questions

The parts people push back on

Is half of calls going unanswered really normal?

For a crew that is on roofs or under sinks all day, yes. The phone rings while both hands are occupied. Evenings and Saturdays are worse, and those are exactly when homeowners call. Set the slider to whatever your own phone records say.

Most of those people call back, don't they?

Some do. A homeowner with water on the floor does not. They work down the search results until someone picks up. That is what the last slider is for. Drop it to 40% and watch how much the figure still moves.

Wouldn't an answering service fix this for less?

It fixes the pickup and not the booking. A service that takes a message still leaves the caller waiting, and they have already dialed someone else by the time you get it. What matters is whether the call ends with an appointment on the calendar.

Why does the industry I pick change the numbers?

Because average job value and close rate move enormously between trades. A drain clear and an ADU build differ by two orders of magnitude. The presets are starting points. Overwrite them with your own.

Let's go plug it

The number above is not a marketing problem. It is a phone problem, and it is fixable in weeks rather than quarters. Tell us what your setup looks like now and we will tell you straight whether we can move it.

  • We look at your actual call records, not an industry average
  • You get the specific gap — after hours, lunch rush, weekends, whatever it turns out to be
  • If the fix is something you can do yourself without paying us, we will say so
